Beverly, Mass. – The Wentworth men's basketball team fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference frontrunner Endicott College by a final score of 79-65 on Wednesday evening inside MacDonald Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Endicott shot 52.9% from the field and broke a 4-4 tie with a 16-5 run to hold a commanding 20-9 lead midway through the first half. Keith Brown capped the charge with a three-pointer and knocked in a second trey with 8:08 left to go to keep the gap at 11, 23-12. Both teams traded baskets including four points from Wentworth's Noah Bice (Woodacre, Calif.) and a layup from Jack Shaake (Hampton, N.H.), before Ty Vitko drained another long-range basket for the Gulls to lead 32-18 with just under five minutes left in the half.
  • Down 40-26 at the break, the Leopards came out of halftime and shot 46.%, where Kyle Henseler (Coventry, R.I.) bucketed 15 of his team-high 22 points. Wentworth clawed back and hovered in the ten-point range midway through the half, until Kevin Fernandez (Lawrence, Mass.) ignited a 6-0 spurt for Wentworth that brought the Leopards within six, 58-52. A 12-3 run for the home team, however, boosted the Gulls' advantage back to double-digits, as Keith Brown sank a free throw for the 70-55 score. The hosts took their largest lead of the game with two minutes left in the contest to secure another CCC victory.

NOTES

  • Henseler scored 20+ points for the first time this season and fourth time in his career at Wentworth
  • Endicott held a 42-36 advantage on the glass, while both teams grabbed six offensive boards each.
  • The Gulls are in first place in the league standings with a 7-1 record in conference.
