CRANSTON, R.I. – After finishing Saturday's opening round in 16th place, the Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team shave 23 strokes off its score, finishing with a 659 (341-318) which was good for 14th place at the Wildcat Spring Invitational. The two-day event was contested at the par 71, 6,492-yard Cranston Country Club.
The Leopards' 14th-place finish was out of 20 teams as Amherst won with a two-day total of 596, followed by Providence (600), and the host Wildcats (605). Amherst's Cole Vissicchio took home medalist honors with a one-over 143.
Freshman Nicholas Kurtz (Dover, N.H.) led Wentworth with a 156, shooting an 81 on Saturday and a 75 on Sunday, which was good for a tie for 34th place out of 103 golfers. Classmate Jared Turgeon (Dover, N.H.) finished tied for 62nd after carding a 164 (83-81). Senior Brian Bak (Chicopee, Mass.) finished tied for 76th by shooting a 168, which including a second round 79, while junior Sean L'Italien (Pembroke, Mass.) was tied for 82nd with a 171 (88-83).
Wentworth closes out the 2018-2019 campaign on Tuesday at the Rich Korzec Invitational.
