WATERTOWN, Mass. – For the third time this season, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Gordon have played each other in men's tennis. And, for the third time, the score has been 5-4. Thursday afternoon the Fighting Scots took a 2-1 season series advantage with their victory.
Wentworth's lone point in doubles play came at No. 3 as Gordon defaulted. Seniors Taymour Mansi (Alexandria Egypt) and Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) were defeated at No. 2, 8-0, while freshman Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) and senior Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) fell at No. 1, 8-2.
The Leopards tied the score at 2-all with a default win at No. 5 singles, however, junior Sam Ferro (Whitman, Mass.) was defeated, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5 to give Gordon a 3-2 lead. Senior Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) tied the match at 3-all with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4. The back-and-forth action continued as Gallegos was defeated, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1, and Hall won, 7-5, 6-3, at No.2 to tie the match at 4-all. Senior Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) picked up a win in the first set at No. 3, 6-3, however dropped the second set, 3-6, forcing a tiebreaker. In the third set he was defeated, 8-10, giving the Fighting Scots the win.
