WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the opening set before pulled back within four on three occasions, including on a graduate student Ryan Engel (Floral Park, N.Y.) kill which made it 15-11. The Gulls responded with the next three points and held a 24-17 lead. Wentworth rolled off four straight points which included a kill from freshman Jacob LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) to make it 24-21, however, a service error gave Endicott the 25-21 win.
  • The second set featured eight ties and five lead changes as Endicott eventually took a 21-18 lead after a Leopard service error. A Kill from Engel and a pair of Gull errors knotted the score at 21-all. After a service error gave Endicott a 22-21 lead, the Gulls returned the favor to tie the score at 22-all. A pair of errors by the Black & Gold put Endicott at set point (24-22), however, the Leopards rolled off four straight points to take the second set, 26-24. Love tied the score at 24-all with a kill and scored the set-clinching point with his seventh kill of the set as he hit .700 (7-0-10) in the frame. As a team Wentworth hit a match-high .435.
  • Endicott led by three, 13-10, in the third set before a freshman Jacob Waga (East Northport, N.Y.) served an ace to start a 4-0 spurt and give the hosts a 14-13 lead. Wentworth again held the lead, 16-15, on a kill from sophomore Colin Stockton (Hummelstown, Pa.) before the Gulls scored four straight points to take a 19-16 lead. Love and Engel recorded back-to-back kills to come within one, a deficit that would occur three more times before the Gulls took a 25-22 win.
  • Needing a win in the fourth set to keep the match alive, Wentworth did just that, dominating with a 25-13 win. After the only tie of the set took place at 1-all, the Leopards took a 10-5 lead on a block from senior David Marsh and freshman Anthony Krzykowski (Feeding Hills, Mass.). Holding a 16-11 lead, the Black & Gold went on an 8-2 run to close out the set. The Leopards hit .320 in the frame and held the Gulls to -.094
  • The deciding set featured 12 ties and a pair of lead changes with no team holding more than a two-point lead. Endicott led 5-3 after a Wentworth attack error, and, again, at 8-6 before Wentworth battled back and took a 12-11 lead on a kill from Love. LaBouliere and Love each recorded kills to break a 12-all tie and give the Leopards match point, however, the Gulls got a pair of kills of their own to tie the score at 14-all. Wentworth led, 16-15, after a kill from Engel but gave the point back to the Gulls with a service error. Love put down his sixth kill of the set to make it 17-16 and Engel and Marsh combined on a block to end the match with an 18-16 win.
  • In addition to Love, Engel had 13 kills and LaBouliere added 10. Senior Peter Klembczyk (Penfield, N.Y.) had 17 digs, Krzykowski had 47 assists, and Marsh had five blocks.
