Leopards Fall at Curry, 7-2

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play and never looked back, en route to a 7-2 win in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match.

 

The Colonels (2-1, 1-1 TCCC) received an 8-1 win at number one doubles as freshman Emily Mongello (Milton, Mass.) teamed with classmate Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) to defeat junior Joanna Gustafson (Ashburnham, Mass.) and senior Meredith Gratton (West Chazy, N.Y.).  Senior Lauren Maloney (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and freshman Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) took an 8-6 win at number three doubles over freshmen Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) and Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) before Curry completed the sweep with a 9-8 win at number two doubles as freshmen Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) and Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) edged Leopards sophomores Natalya Cappellini (Falmouth, Mass.) and Lana Ho (Vineyard Haven, Mass.).

 

Mulrooney took a 6-0, 6-0 win over Gustafson at number one singles, while Mongello defeated Gratton at number three singles, Chuha defeated Ho at number four singles, and junior Kathleen Rush (Waterbury, Conn.) defeated Hegner at number five singles.  Wentworth received wins at number two and number six singles, as Cappellini downed Maloney and Massaro defeated Curley, respectively.

 

Wentworth (1-1, 1-1 TCCC) steps out of conference to host Emerson on Thursday.  That same day, Curry is at Johnson & Wales.
