HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott wasted little time getting on the board, scoring just 16 seconds into the contest. Sophomore Andrew Kurapov (Corvallis, Ore.), who won the opening faceoff, scored from junior Noah Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) and junior Matt Giroux (Bedford, N.H.). The Gulls increased their lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal from sophomore Cam Speck (Burnt Hills, N.Y.), which was assisted by junior Kevin Craig (Hyannis, Mass.) at the 13:03 mark. A minute and 41 seconds later, Wentworth got on the board when freshman Joey LaRossa (Braintree, Mass.) put home his first collegiate goal, which came off a rebound of his saved shot. Junior Matt Ernster picked up the assist on the play.
  • The Gulls increased their lead to 3-1 in the second period when Shanheen picked up a shorthanded goal, assisted by junior Carlisle, Pa.) and Speck. Senior Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.) had a chance late in the period to draw the hosts back within one, however, senior Conor O'Brian (Pinellas Park, Fla.) made the save.
  • With Wentworth on a power play early in the third period, the Black & Gold were whistled for a penalty on a breakaway. Shaheen took a penalty shot, however, sophomore Will Oliver (Chesterfield, Mo.) made the stop to keep it a two-goal game.
  • On a delayed penalty call with 2:15 left, Oliver was pulled for an extra attacker. Shaheen scored his second of the night, a shorthanded, empty-net goal to ice the win.
  • O'Brien made 25 saves in the win while Oliver made 21 saves. Wentworth had a 26-25 shot advantage.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today marked the 17th all-time meeting between the two teams with Endicott holding a 14-3 advantage.
