Men's Lacrosse Falls to Roger Williams

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) and senior Jon Nessa (Concord, Mass.) scored three goals each to help pace the Roger Williams men's lacrosse team to a 13-8 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference action played on Sweeney Field.

With the win the Hawks picked up their second straight win to improve to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in CCC play. The Leopards suffered their third straight setback and stand at 3-5 (0-2).

The Leopards took a 1-0 lead 2:16 into the contest when junior Ryan Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) scored off a feed from sophomore Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.). However, on the ensuing faceoff, senior Alan Williams won the draw and went in alone to tie the game just seven seconds later.

Roger Williams received goals from sophomore Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) and Nessa to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Sophomore Nick Parent (Windham, N.H.) scored two goals to open the second quarter for the Leopards and tie the contest at 3-all with 9:23 remaining. The Hawks responded by scoring the next nine goals over a span of 16:09 – including when Siefert and Nessa combined to score three times in a span of 34 seconds – to break the game open. Junior Michael Cushera (Waltham, Mass.) ended a 23:12 scoring drought when he scored with 1:11 left in the third quarter.

The Leopards would outscore the Hawks by a 4-1 margin in the final quarter with senior Steve Glover, Parent, Paradis, and sophomore Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) all scoring.

Seifert finished with three goals and an assist, junior Mike Hanna (Somers, Conn.) had two goals and two assists, sophomore Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) and senior John Ricciardi (Duxbury, Mass.) also had a multiple-point game with a goal and an assist. Williams was dominant at the X, winning 19 of 20 face-offs and picking up 15 ground balls. Junior Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.) made 17 saves in 56:06 of work.

Parent finished with three goals while Ryan Coakley had a goal and three assists, Glover and Paradis had a goal and two assists each, and Cushera had a goal and an assist. Sophomore James Caldwell (New Milford, Conn.) had seven ground balls while Cushera scooped up six. Senior Jared Proulx (Nashua, N.H.) made 11 stops in 56:06 while classmate Jeff Bathalon (Maynard, Mass.) made one save in the final 3:54.

Wentworth held a 42-37 shot advantage while Roger Williams had a 42-37 edge in ground balls. Both teams successfully cleared the ball as each were 19-for-21 on clear attempts.

Both teams continue CCC play on Tuesday as Roger Williams hosts Salve Regina and Wentworth is at Endicott.
