SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College men's soccer team recorded its seventh consecutive shutout with a 5-0 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday (Oct. 10).
This was a season high for goals for the Golden Bears who are
8-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference
(TCCC). WNEC is 5-0-2 in its last seven outings.
Senior forward Jay Sabia (Poughkeepsie, NY) scored his first two
goals of the season and added an assist. He netted the opening goal
just 3:12 into the contest, and added his final score and
assist in the second half.
Sophomore forward John Rusin (Chicopee, MA) contributed his
first goal of the year and had the assist on Sabia's first
score.
Junior midfielder Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA) chipped-in
with his team high fifth goal of the campaign while senior
midfielder Ryan Nugent (Bath, PA) collected his first goal of the
fall.
Sophomore midfielder Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, NY) had
three assists in one of the best performances of his career.
Senior goalkeeper Kyle Bak (Cumberland, RI) compiled five saves
in 57 minutes, 15 seconds. Sophomore Sean Healey (Portland, CT)
played the rest of the way stopping three shots.
Western New England College had a 21-10 advantage in shots and
3-0 edge in corner kicks.
Juniors Brian
Pearsall (Sanford, ME) (6 saves) and Devin
Pleuler (Gloucester, MA) (3 saves) combined for nine saves for
the Leopards.
Wentworth drops to 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
