RECORDS

WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior Drew Potter (Towson, Md.) picked up a kill and service ace early as the Leopards jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Dean came back to win four of the next five, taking a one-point lead. A pair of kills by freshman Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio) kicked off a 5-1 run to put Wentworth in front 9-6. The teams then alternated points, but the Bulldogs went on to narrow their deficit to two. The Leopards came through by running off seven straight points to take control. Potter led the way for the visitors during the stretch, connecting on four aces as Wentworth took an 18-9 lead. Dean won three of four afterwards, but the gap was too large for them to overcome, as a kill and ace from freshman Dave Arellanes (North Aurora, Ill.), combined with kills from Etter and freshman Nick Cebula (West Springfield, Mass) closed things out with a 25-14 win in set one.
  • The visitors kept it rolling in the second, going on a 7-1 run to start off the set. Arellanes had two kills, while Etter and freshman Alek Reymond (Chittenango, N.Y.) added one apiece. However, Dean came back to win five of the next six points, bringing the score to 8-6 in favor of Wentworth. But the Leopards dominated the set from that point on, allowing just one more Bulldog point the rest of the way. Etter had three kills during that time, while Arellanes added five aces and Etter added three. Wentworth won the set 25-7 to take a 2-0 lead in the match heading to the third.
  • It was more of the same in the third set, as kills by Reymond and Potter helped the visitors out to a 3-1 lead. After a point from Dean, Wentworth blew the set open. The Leopards won 13 of the following 14 points, highlighted by four aces and two kills by Arellanes. Etter put down two kills during the run, and freshman Jonah Kaye (Carlsbad, Calif.) added one ace as well. Cebula added three kills the rest of the way, while Arellanes, Reymond, and Etter picked up one apiece. The Leopards won the third set 25-11 to close out the straight set victory with an impressive 3-0 win.
