BOSTON, Mass. – For the second consecutive season and fourth time since 2016, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team will be competing in the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Tournament. The 10th-ranked Leopards, who punched their ticket Saturday night with their third Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship; a 3-0 win over Lasell, will square off against 15th-ranked St. John Fisher in an opening round match Friday (April 15) at 6:30 p.m., on the campus of Rutgers-Newark.

Wentworth has a 3-3 all-time record in NCAA Tournament play, having gone 1-1 in each of its three previous appearances. In 2016, the Leopards defeated Hunter, 3-0, in the first round before falling to eventual national champion New Paltz, 3-1 in the quarterfinals. The following season the Black & Gold were 3-0 winners over Juniata in the quarterfinals before falling to New Paltz, 3-2, in the national semifinals. Last season Wentworth was a 3-0 winner over New Jersey City in the opening round and lost a 3-0 decision to Southern Virgina in the quarterfinals.

The Leopards enter the tournament having won 13 matches in a row, with 12 of those coming by straight sets and have won 28 sets in a row. Wentworth's 28 wins ties a program record for wins in a season, while their winning percentage (.875) is the highest in program history.

St. John Fisher (24-7) punched its first-ever ticket to the tournament with a 3-2 win over New Paltz in the championship match of the United Volleyball Conference Tournament. The Cardinals have won eight matches in a row and have amassed the best record in the program's five-year history.

Friday's meeting will be the third all-time between the two programs, having met in both 2019 and 2020. The series is tied at 1-all with both matches having gone five sets. Wentworth won on January 18, 2019, at St. John Fisher, while the Cardinals won on January 25, 2020, at SUNY Poly.

The other half of the bracket features Baruch against the host Scarlet Raiders. That match will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the winners of both matches will square off on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. for a berth in the national semifinals.

More information will be available during the week.
