McSolla Leads Men's Cross Country to Second Place Finish

BRISTOL, R.I. – Freshman Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.) covered the five-kilometer course in 16:54, en route to a first-place finish and helped the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the 2014 Roger Williams Invitational.

The Leopards' 61 points were 28 points behind UMass Dartmouth, which had four of the top 10 finishers and amassed 33 points. McSolla's time was just over eight seconds better than the second place runner, Kevin Wood from UMass Dartmouth.

Freshman Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) finished sixth in the 91-runner field, completing the course in 17:18. Classmates Stephen Gencarelli (Westerly, R.I.) and Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) were 10th and 11th, finishing with times of 17:33 and 17:35, respectively. Rounding out Wentworth's scorers was freshman Clay Harman (Broad Brook, Conn.) who finished 35th (33 points) with a time of 19:05.

Junior Kyle Schwartz (South Windsor, Conn.) placed 46th with a time of 19:21, while sophomore David Ouellette (Wells, Maine) was 54th with a time of 19:44.

The Leopards will compete at the UNE Invitational next Saturday.
