McCann Nets Three in Women's Lacrosse's Home Opener

BOSTON, Mass – Junior Lauren Longstreet (Alamo, Calif.) recorded four goals and four assists as the Emerson College women's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology (0-2), 21-4, in non-conference action Thursday afternoon. Longstreet was one of three Emerson student-athletes to record four goals as junior Maddy Reyes (San Ramon, Calif.) and sophomore Callie Krosin (Pikesville, Md.) each had four goals and an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Reyes and Krosin gave Emerson a 2-0 lead with goals scored 1:41 apart. Senior Helen Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine) put Wentworth on the board with 9:56 left before freshman Maggie McCann (North Grafton, Mass.) tied the game on a player-up goal 49 seconds later. Emerson used a 5-1 run to take a 7-3 lead after the first quarter, with McCann scoring the Leopards' goal during that time.
  • The Lions scored seven times in the second quarter and added two more early in the third to give Emerson a 16-3 lead before McCann scored her third of the game with 7:02 left.
  • Emerson tallied the final two goals of the third quarter and outscored the hosts, 3-0, in the fourth quarter.
  • McCann finished with three goals, giving her five through her first two collegiate contests. Sophomore Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.) won six draw controls and scooped up four ground balls. Hamblett won five draw controls. Sophomore Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie (Laconia, N.H.) scooped up four ground balls and caused three turnovers.
  • Sophomore Lily Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) made eight saves in the first 45 minutes. Freshman Taytum Shanahan (Bozeman, Mont.) made her collegiate debut in the fourth quarter, making one stop.

NOTEWORTHY

  • For the second game in row Wentworth won the draw control battle, winning 14 of 26 draws.


SERIES HISTORY

  • Today marked the third-ever meeting between the two teams.
