Matt Dugan Elevated to Head Women's Volleyball Coach

BOSTON, Mass. – After spending five seasons as an Assistant Men's and Women's Volleyball Coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology, Matt Dugan has been named the Leopards' Head Women's Volleyball Coach. Evin Giglio who served as the Leopards' head coach for the past eight seasons will remain Wentworth's Head Men's Volleyball Coach, a position he has held for the past nine seasons. Director of Athletics Cheryl Aaron made the announcement.

"We are so happy that Matt will be joining our head coaching staff," said Aaron. "He brings great enthusiasm and experience having spent the last five years serving our championship volleyball programs."

Dugan joined the Leopards in the fall of 2015, assisting both programs in many of their essential functions, including recruiting, training the setters and liberos, and planning the non-traditional season. He served as the Head Girls' Volleyball Coach at Wellesley High School after working as an assistant coach for both their boys' and girls' programs. He has been a part of the Beantown Volleyball program as a coach for the 16 Girls Elite and Boys 18 Platinum as well as a coach for the Sports Performance Setting academy.

A native of New Lenox, Ill., Dugan was a four-year letterwinner at Lasell, playing both the setter and libero positions during his career. In his senior season of 2015, he helped the Lasers to a 24-9 record and both the program's first Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. He finished his career with 1,406 assists and 546 digs, both of which rank among the top 10 in program history. During both his junior and senior seasons he was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team and was also a four-year GNAC All-Academic Team selection.

"I am extremely excited for this opportunity to take the reins of a program I have been a part for so long," said Dugan. I can remember this being the goal from the day I interviewed for the assistant position with Coach Giglio and it's surreal to have my collegiate head coaching career begin at Wentworth. I've grown so much while working alongside Evin and I can't thank him enough for everything he has given me over the past five years. I'm motivated to continue the excellence we've developed with the student-athletes, both past and present, to remain at the top of the CCC."

Giglio was named Wentworth's Head Women's Volleyball Coach in the spring of 2012, after he had concluded his first season guiding the Leopard men's program. In eight seasons he amassed a record of 143-82 (.636), with 95 of those wins coming during the program's most dominant era; the last four seasons. The Leopards made five Commonwealth Coast Conference appearances in his eight seasons at the helm and captured the program's first-ever CCC title in 2018, which also resulted in the first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance for the Wentworth women's volleyball team. He coached 17 All-CCC selections, including the program's first rookie of the year and player of the year, Leah Rogoz, who became the program's first All-America selection to conclude her senior campaign. Giglio was named the league's coach of the year in 2018.

"After eight years of coaching the women's volleyball team at Wentworth, I could not be prouder of what we have accomplished," said Giglio. "The commitment displayed by our student-athletes to become a championship level program is outstanding. I appreciate all their hard work and the continued support from Wentworth Athletics."

"I'm delighted to see Matt take over and continue to facilitate the growth of the program," added Giglio. Over the last five years he has been integral to our success with his relentless commitment to the team. I share in his excitement to lead the program and look forward to the continued success."
