WENTWORTH STAT LEADERS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards rolled into the match strongly with a kill from senior Riley Waggoner (Simi Valley, Calif.) to put the home team ahead 1-0. Back-and-forth errors brought the score higher for both teams until kills from freshman Riley Schoonmaker (Montgomery, N.Y.) and sophomore Helen Barthe (Blythewood, S.C.) kept the Leopards ahead 12-6. A service ace from junior Shelby Seage (Cocoa, Fla.) gave Wentworth the next point. Kills by Schoonmaker, Seage, and sophomore Ashley Cao (Morrisville, N.C.) solidified the Leopards' lead at 20-15. Wentworth rattled off multiple kills, including two from Barthe, to grab a 25-17 win and a 1-0 match lead.
  • Thanks to the Hawks committing errors early in the second set, the Leopards were able to jump out to an early 8-1 lead. A kill by Schoonmaker kept the lead at 13-3. A kill by sophomore Ema Thompson (Lewiston, Idaho) helped the black and gold extend the advantage to 17-3. Although the Hawks challenged the Leopards to grab the set-winning point by winning six-straight points, a kill by Waggoner sealed the set for Wentworth, giving them a 25-15 win and a 2-0 match lead.
  • The Hawks gained an early 5-2 lead in the third set. A kill by sophomore Abby Maher (North Granby, Conn.) inched the Leopards closer, still behind 7-6. A kill by Abby Warren (Gilmanton, N.H.) put the Leopards ahead 9-8. Kills by Waggoner, Barthe, and Maher, paired with errors, extended Wentworth's lead to 17-8. The two teams traded kills in the wanning moments of the set until a kill from Maher and an error on the Hawks' side gave the Leopards a 25-14 win and a 3-0 match sweep.
