Men's Basketball Earns NABC Team Academic Excellence Award; Knollmeyer, Kizel Named to Honors Court

Boston, Mass. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its sixth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards, naming Wentworth Institute of Technology to the list for the first time in program history. These awards recognize outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2017-18 season.

In addition to the Team Excellence Award, the Leopards landed two seniors, Sam Knollmeyer (Hampton, N.H.) and Ben Kizel (Short Hills, N.J.) on the NABC Honors Court. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 academic year. Knollmeyer and Kizel take home the honor for the second straight season, as both business management majors will graduate from Wentworth this August. Knollmeyer and Kizel are the lone representatives from the Commonwealth Coast Conference on the list.

The pair earned additional academic awards announced last month, as both were named to the (CCC) Academic All-Conference Team. Knollmeyer was awarded as the CCC Senior Scholar Athlete at the conclusion of the season in conjunction with earning his second straight Defensive Player of the Year honor.
