GROTON, Conn. – Paced by a pair of top-five finishes by two freshmen student-athletes, the Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team finished second at the Mitchell Invitational, held Thursday at the par 71 Shennecossett Golf Course.
The Leopards' 317 was 16 strokes behind Albertus Magnus, while finishing ahead of WestConn (326) and the host Mariners (368).
Ryan Vincent (Carver, Mass.) was Wentworth's medalist, tying for third with a +4, 75. Ethan Lackner (Brooklyn, Conn.) was a shot behind Vincent, tying for fifth with a 76.
Junior Nico Alonso (Madrid, Spain) tied for ninth with an 82, while junior Luke Boccelli (Pepperell, Mass.) tied for 14th with an 84 to round out the four scoring golfers for the Leopards.
Senior Dan Clapp (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished tied for 16th with a 90.
The Black & Gold are at the New England College Invitational on Sunday.
