BEVERLY, Mass. – A five-goal afternoon from sophomore Jack Sutherland (Cranston, R.I.) helped propel the Endicott College men's lacrosse team to a 20-4 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in an opening round contest of the 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.

With the win the second-seeded Gulls improve to 10-7 and will host third-seeded Roger Williams on Tuesday. The seventh-seeded Leopards see their season com to an end with a 6-12 record. Wentworth, which won six games for the third straight season, was making its first postseason appearance since 2016.

Endicott scored just eight seconds into the game on a Sutherland's first of the game, however, Wentworth bounced back 1:54 later to even the score at 1-all, thanks to a sophomore Andrew DiPalma (West Orange, N.J.) goal.

The Gulls used a 10-0 run over a span of 28:23 to break the game open as graduate student A.J. MacDonald (New Fairfield, Conn.) scored twice and Sutherland added two more. Junior Kyle Doner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) ended Wentworth's drought, scoring with 12:37 left in the third quarter. The hosts scored the next six goals before a senior Jason Buck (Manlius, N.Y.) goal ended that spurt with 5:58 remaining. Endicott tacked on two more goals in a 2:09 span with Leopard senior Jacob Eldred (Goffstown, N.H.) tallying the final goal of the game with 2:51 left.

MacDonald and junior Nick Arcadipane (Groveland, Mass.) each finished with two goals while junior Mike Sudora (Monroe, Conn.) had two goals and an assist. Senior Derek Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) was 17-of-22 at the X and scooped up 12 ground balls.

Buck paced the Wentworth offense with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Danny Bartosiewicz (North Grafton, Mass.) finished with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Senior Patrick Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) made nine saves over the first 45 minutes for Endicott before giving way to junior Austin Fournier (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.), who made four stops in the final quarter. Sophomore Randy Ryan (Clinton, N.J.) made 11 saves for Wentworth. Endicott had advantages in shots (41-33) and ground balls (36-26). Both teams were effective clearing the ball as the Gulls were 20-of-24 and the Leopards were 20-of-27.
