BOSTON, Mass. – Senior midfielder Dan Santacroce (Northford, Conn.) scored the game's only goal and junior keeper John Longo (Needham, Mass.) made eight saves as the Wentworth men's soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over WPI on Sweeney Field.

The opening moments of the contest saw the majority of the play in the midfield area with the two teams combining to take just five shots in the first 11 minutes.

Less than a minute after the Engineers had a corner kick attempted cleared out, senior midfielder Josh Deschene (Webster, Mass.) tipped a ball to Santacroce to the right of the box. Santacroce gained control and fired a shot to the right side, alluding WPI sophomore Jeff Wong (Millington, N.J.).

Both teams had chances to score throughout the remainder of the half, but Longo and Wong both came up with key saves, including Wong making a sprawling save on Deschene in the 30th minute. The Leopards held an 11-9 shot advantage after the first 45:00.

The second half saw the two teams combine to take 23 shots, however just eight of them were on target. The Engineers had a pair of chances late in the contest, with one coming off of a throw in and the other off a corner kick, but both headers sailed to the left.

Longo made five of his eight saves in the second half while Wong turned aside seven shots. The Engineers held a 22-21 shot advantage and a 7-3 corner kick advantage.

With the win Wentworth improves to 4-4-2 and is at Eastern Nazarene on Saturday. WPI dropped its second straight to fall to 8-3-0 and hosts Wheaton on Saturday, October 15.
