SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England men's soccer team clinched the regular season Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) crown with a 3-0 win over Wentworth on Saturday (Oct. 22) at Suprenant Field.

The Golden Bears improve to 14-3-1 and remain unbeaten in conference (8-0) play; WNE will be the top-seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament. The Leopards slip to 6-6-3 (3-4-2 CCC) and are locked into the number six seed for the conference tournament.

WNE jumped out to an early lead as senior forward John Rusin (Chicopee, MA) finished on a feed from fellow senior forward Austin Santolini (Agawam, MA) in the third minute.

Sophomore forward Ryan Mastalerz (Elkridge, MD) whipped in a cross that was flicked on by senior midfielder Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, NY) to sophomore forward Ryan Williams (Brewster, NY) who put the Golden Bears up 2-0 at 27:53.

Senior midfielder Corey Howard (Hopedale, MA) added an insurance tally that was set up by classmate Eric Marcelino (Farmington, CT) in the 68th minute for his seventh goal of the year.

The Golden Bears held a 12-6 advantage in shots; and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Sean Healey (Portland, CT) made a pair of saves to keep the clean sheet in goal.

Wentworth junior goalkeeper John Longo (Needham, MA) also made two saves on the day.

The Golden Bears will close out the regular season by traveling to Gordon on Tuesday (Oct. 25) at 5:30 p.m. The Leopards will close out the regular season by traveling to MIT on Monday (Oct. 24) at 7:00 p.m.
