Lengthy Losing Streak Against Salve Regina Snapped

BOSTON, Mass. – For the first time since 1988, the Wentworth men's tennis team defeated Salve Regina.  The Leopards snapped a 20-match losing streak to the Seahawks with a 6-3 victory, which also stopped a three-match losing streak for the 2010 Leopards.

 

The Leopards took a 3-0 lead after doubles play with Baltazar Jimenez (Cambridge, Mass.) and Joe Centola (Hopkinton, Mass.) teaming up to win at number three doubles, Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine) and Ross Lyons (Madison, Conn.) winning at number two doubles, and Juan Rodriguez (Quito Ecuador) and Dan Alexander (Merrimac, Mass.) winning at number one doubles.

 

Lyons and Rodriguez won at number five and number one singles, respectively, to clinch the match, before the Seahawks won at number three and number four singles to get on the board.  Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.) won at number six singles, making it 6-2 Wentworth and Salve Regina closed out the match with a win at number two singles.

 

In the 24 meetings between the two schools, Salve Regina leads 21-3.
