Glavin Named CCC Rookie of the Year

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Student-athletes from all 10 institutions from the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2012 All-CCC Softball Team, as announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, winners of five major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected.

University of New England senior Ashely Gott was named CCC Player of the Year, Salve Regina junior Jen Cruver was picked as CCC Pitcher of the Year, Wentworth freshman Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) was chosen CCC Rookie of the Year, University of New England's Maegan Johnson was honored as CCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Salve Regina's Kerri Scroope was honored as CCC Coach of the Year and Wentworth Institute of Technology was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Glavin, who was also named Honorable Mention All-CCC, started all 35 contests for the Leopards (30 behind the plate, five at third base) and batted .402 (39-for-97) with 13 doubles, five home runs, 28 runs scored, and 27 runs batted in. Her 13 doubles set a single-season program record while her 39 hits tied the program's single season record. She had an on-base percentage of .473 and a slugging percentage of .691. She recorded 10 multiple-hit games, including belting out a program record five in a 16-8 win over Wheelock. In that game she also tied the program's record with four doubles.

She becomes the first Leopard softball player to earn conference rookie of the year honors since Jena Beauregard '06 took home the award in 2003.

After winning just one game in 2011, the 2012 edition of the Leopards finished 10-25.
