NEWTON, Mass. – Morgan Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) scored a game-high 31 points on 14-for-24 shooting from the floor as the Dean College women's basketball team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 75-66, in the first day of the 2017 Mustang Classic.
With the win the Bulldogs improve to 1-1 on the season while the Leopards fall to 0-2.
Dean led from start to finish, ending the first half on a 10-0 run to hold a 39-26 advantage heading into the break. Chantell Lopez (Meriden, Conn.) sunk a layup in the opening minutes of the second half that was answered by a two-pointer from senior Courtney McCormick (Hanson, Mass.), but the Bulldogs peeled off another substantial run (8-0) for their largest lead of the game, 49-28, with 5:58 left in the third quarter.

Wentworth netted back-to-back buckets from long-range via McCormick and freshman Stephanie Mini (Topsfield, Mass.), as the Leopards trailed 67-59 with 2:48 left to go in regulation. However, that would be as close as the Black & Gold would get as Dean countered with four straight points.
In addition to her 31 points, Turner grabbed 10 rebounds and had five steals. Shannon Rosensteel (Sunrise, Fla.) joined Turner on the double-double performance with 14 points and 12 rebounds – with 10 of those rebounds coming from the defensive side – while Shania Springer (Bayshore, N.Y.) rounded out double-digit scoring with 10 points.
Freshman Erin Morton (Norway, Maine) came off the bench to score 14 points to lead four double-figure scorers, while also grabbing six rebounds. McCormick scored 11 points while Mini and senior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) each scored 10 points. Mini also had six rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.
Dean held a 45-38 advantage on the glass, while scoring 28 points off Wentworth's 23 turnovers.
Both teams will be in action tomorrow as the Leopards will play Wheelock at 1:00, which will be followed by Dean playing host Mount Ida.
