SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – All nine institutions that sponsor women's tennis from the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2012 All-CCC Women's Tennis Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, four major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected. Nichols College junior Anna Dyakiv was named CCC Player of the Year for the third consecutive year, and Wentworth's Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) was recognized as the CCC Rookie of the Year. Western New England's Linda Mustafa was picked as the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Nichols' Paul Brower was honored as CCC Coach of the Year. Gordon College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Voting for the All-CCC team and the major awards was conducted among CCC head women's tennis coaches.
In addition to Corcoran taking home top rookie honors, she was named Second Team All-CCC in singles play and teamed with sophomore Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.) to earn honorable mention honors in doubles. Junior Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) was named Honorable Mention All-CCC for her play in singles.
Corcoran enjoyed a fine rookie campaign, posting a 6-6 record at number one singles, including a 3-4 mark in league play. She had a five-match winning streak from September 6-17, and all six of her wins came in straight sets.
The Leopards' number one doubles Tandem, Corcoran and Ofer posted a 5-5 record, which included a 3-2 mark in CCC play. The five wins by the duo were the most on this year's squad.
Earning honorable mention accolades for the second consecutive season, Massaro tied for second on the team with five singles wins. Four of her five wins came at number two and she was 1-0 at number three. Through three seasons she has a 20-16 career singles record.
Wentworth finished the 2012 campaign with a 3-10 record and narrowly missed the CCC Tournament with a 2-6 conference record.
