Anchorwomen Defeat Women's Tennis

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's team suffered a 9-0 setback to Rhode Island College in the Leopards' road opener of the 2019-2020 season.

The Anchorwomen open the season with a victory while the Leopards fall to 0-2.

Doubles play saw sophomore Michaela Burr (Westerly, R.I.) and freshman Jenna Lisi (Cranston, R.I.) pick up an 8-0 win over junior Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Morgan Collins (Warwick, R.I.) at the No. 1 slot. At No. 3, junior Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) and junior Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) defeated juniors CiCi Deakin (Standish, Maine) and Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.), 8-0. The hosts completed the doubles sweep when junior Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) and junior Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, R.I.) defeated junior Olivia DeLuca (Dunstable, Mass.) and senior Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.).

Junior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) defeated Erickson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 before freshman Sarah Gonick (Kingston, Mass.) clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Deakin at No. 6. Lisi defeated DeLuca, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2, Raskob defeated Collins, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4, Ten Eyck picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over McGiboon, and Burr defeated Sollecito, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1.

Wentworth is at Suffolk Thursday night.
