Baseball Earns CCC Tournament Berth on Senior Day

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of games against top-ranked Endicott, falling 10-2 and 9-1. Despite the two losses, however, the Leopards earned their first Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament berth since the 2018 season as the Black & Gold will be the No. 6 seed based on conference tiebreakers.

GAME ONE:  Endicott 10, Wentworth 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • An RBI single in the top of the first inning gave Endicott a 1-0 lead before the Gulls added two in the third on a two-run single, making it 3-0.
  • Endicott scored five times in the fourth, extended its lead to 8-0, using an RBI single and a three-run home run to make it 7-0 and a two-base error after a stolen base to up the lead.
  • Wentworth scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to get on the board. In the fifth inning, freshman Christian Roncal (Glendale, Ariz.) singled and went to second on a single from sophomore Nick Cullinan (Sandy Hook, Conn.). Sophomore Matt Robinson (Mystic, Conn.) singled to load the bases and a sophomore Mike Sibert (Lexington, Mass.) ground out plated Roncal. With two outs in the sixth inning, Senior A. T. DiPina (Pawtucket, R.I.) doubled and came around to score on a Roncal single.
  • Endicott scored a run in the eighth after a Leopard error and added one in the ninth on a fielder's choice.
  • Sophomore Alec Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) took the loss (3-2). At the plate, Roncal had a pair of hits.


GAME TWO:  Endicott 9, Wentworth 1


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A solo home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning from senior Christian Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) put Wentworth ahead, 1-0.
  • The Leopards held the lead until the fourth when Endicott scored two on a two-run home run and added one in the sixth on a solo home run, making it 3-1.
  • The Gulls tacked on five runs in the eighth inning, with two coming on a home run, two coming on a two-run single, and the fifth coming as a result of a double steal.
  • Endicott's fourth home run of the game rounded out the scoring in the ninth inning.
  • DiPina was 3-for-4 at the plate. Freshman Nigel Cross (Worcester, Mass.) took the loss (4-2).

ALL-TIME SERIES:

  • Today marked the 59th and 60th all-time meetings between the two teams.
