CHARLESTOWN, Mass. – Senior Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) netted a goal and an assist, while freshman Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.) stopped 19 of 20 shots to lead Wentworth to a 4-1 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Suffolk Saturday afternoon at Horigan Rink.
Jameson gave the visiting Leopards (4-1-1, 1-1 ECAC Northeast) a 1-0 cushion just 2:18 into the contest when he converted a pass from junior Andrew Yarber (Livonia, Mich.) on the power play, and that tally held up until the final 10-plus minutes of action when Wentworth broke things open with three goals in a 1:46 span. Sophomore Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) extended the visitors' lead to 2-0 with 10:39 remaining on a feed from freshman Mike Cox (Marlboro, Mass.), and freshman Devin Cobbold (Ottawa, Ont.) gave the Leopards a three-goal advantage just 59 seconds later on assists from Jameson and junior Cameron Gibson (Valencia, Calif.). Senior Joel Vastl (North Salem, N.H.) ended the flurry with a shorthanded marker that came with 8:53 to play, and sophomore Tim Sprague's (Plymouth, Mass.) unassisted tally with 6:17 remaining accounted for the host Rams' (3-2, 1-2 ECAC Northeast) lone marker of the day as well as the final score.
Miller picked up his second win of the season in net for Wentworth, making 11 of his stops over the first 40 minutes of play, while sophomore Brett Roman (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) made 32 stops between the pipes in the setback for Suffolk, half of which came in the second period alone. The Leopards outshot the Rams by a 36-20 margin for the afternoon, as 26 of those shots came in the first two stanzas.
Suffolk travels to Hooksett, N.H. on Tuesday evening to take on Southern New Hampshire in a non-league outing that faces off at 7:30 p.m., while Wentworth hosts Plymouth State in a non-league re-match of last year's NCAA opening round contest on Monday evening at Matthews Arena in Boston beginning at 8:15 p.m.
