Jameson Named ECAC Northeast Player of the Year; Five Others Honored

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Senior defenseman Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) was named the 2013 ECAC Northeast Player of the Year and five of his teammates were also honored as the league announced its major award winners and all-conference teams Friday night.

The major award winners and all-conference teams were voted on by the league's eight head coaches.

Jameson was joined on the first team by sophomore forward Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.), while senior defenseman Reed Rushing (Seattle, Wash.) and freshman goaltender Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.) were named to the second team. Freshmen forwards Adam Frank (Clarkston, Mich.) and Mike Cox (Marlborough, Mass.) each earned a spot on the ECAC Northeast All-Rookie Team.

A mainstay on defense throughout his four years, Jameson has five goals and 21 assists for 26 points, with his assist and point totals leading the team. Two of his goals have come on the power play and he ranks fourth nationally among defensemen in Division III with 1.04 points per game. He recorded the game-winning goal in overtime in a 4-3 win at Salve Regina on January 29 and had three assists in his final, regular-season home game, a 5-2 win over Salve Regina on February 16.

Jameson joins his brother, Skylur '12, who won the award 2010 as the last two Wentworth hockey players to take home league player of the year honors. A four-time All-ECAC Northeast selection, Jameson is the program's all-time leading scorer among Leopard defensemen as he has 94 career points (24 goals, 70 assists) in 104 career games. His 94 points also ranks him 13th on Wentworth's all-time scoring list. He was recently named a semifinalist for the 2013 Joe Concannon Award, given annually to the best American-born college hockey player at the Division II/III level in New England.

Crowe, the team's leading goal scorer, has tallied 10 goals and has assisted on 10 others for 20 points. Four of his goals have come on the power play and he recorded a hat trick in a 4-3, overtime win at Salve Regina on January 29. In that game he also recorded an assist, assisting on Jameson's game-winning goal. Having played 54 of a possible 54 games over his first two seasons, Crowe has 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points. Nine of his 22 career goals (eight power play, one shorthanded) have come on special teams and he has five game-winning markers.

Rushing has played in 24 of Wentworth's 24 games and has scored one goal and assisted on six other for seven points. His lone goal came in a 4-2 win over Western New England, as he scored a shorthanded, empty-net goal to seal the win. After transferring from Bowling Green, Rushing has played in 53 games over two seasons for the Black & Gold, scoring five goals and assisting on 18 other for 23 points.

Miller has had an impressive rookie campaign, posting an 11-2-2 record with a 1.94 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. He ranks ninth nationally among Division III goalies in goals against average, 13th in save percentage, and ninth in winning percentage and he picked up his first collegiate shutout in a 3-0 win over Suffolk on February 11.

Frank has played in all 25 of the Leopards' games, scoring seven goals (two on the power play) and assisting on five others for 12 points. He had a pair of goals in an 8-3 win over Johnson & Wales on February 3 and set a career high for points in a game with three when he scored a goal and assisted on two others in a 5-2 win over Salve Regina on February 16.

Playing in 24 of Wentworth's 25 games, Cox has scored four goals and assisted on 15 others for 19 points, which leads all Leopard rookies. In his collegiate debut, a 7-2 win over Worcester State on November 3, he had two goals and three assists for a five-point game and had a career-best four assists in an 8-3 win over Johnson & Wales on February 3.

Wentworth, regular season champions in the ECAC Northeast, sits at 14-8-3 overall and will host sixth-seeded Johnson & Wales in a conference semifinal on Wednesday (February 27) at 8:15 p.m. The Leopards are seeking their second consecutive (and sixth overall) conference championship.
