Strong Second Half Lifts Men's Lacrosse to 14-5 Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Steve Glover (Marsons Mills, Mass.) scored five second half goals as the Wentworth Institute of technology men's lacrosse team outscored Mass. Maritime, 10-5 over the final 30 minutes to take a 14-5 victory in non-conference action played on Sweeney Field.

The Buccaneers led 3-1 after one quarter of play as sophomore Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.), senior Dan Langley (Abington, Mass.), and freshman Anthony Kurylak (Rye, N.H.) scored for the visitors while freshman Nick Parent (Windham, N.H.) tallied for the hosts.

Wentworth scored the next three goals to take a 4-3 lead with 5:37 left in half on goals from freshman Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.), junior Chris Kipp (Scarborough, Maine), and senior Pat Helfrich (North Andover, Mass.) before Mass. Maritime senior John Hojnoski (West Springfield, Mass.) evened the score at 4-all with his goal with seven seconds left in the half.

The Leopards tallied five times in the third quarter, with Glover scoring twice and Kipp, Paradis, and freshman Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) scoring. Hojnoski added his second of the game with 1:11 left in the quarter to make it a 9-5 game.

Glover scored three of the Leopards' five goals in the fourth quarter as the hosts kept Mass. Maritime off the board for the final 16:11. Sophomore Ryan Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) and Parent added Wentworth's other goals.

In addition to his five goals, Glover caused four turnovers. Parent finished with two goals and an assist, while Paradis and Kipp had two goals apiece. Seniors Sean Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) and Tyler Forthofer (Glastonbury, Conn.) had each had a team-high six ground balls. Senior Jared Proulx (Nashua, N.H.) made 14 saves in the win.

Hojnoski had two goals, an assist, and a pair of caused turnovers for the Buccaneers, while freshman Nicholas Defuria (Succasanna, N.J.) won 15 of 23 faceoffs and collected nine ground balls. Junior Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) made 16 saves and collected six ground balls. Wentworth held a 38-33 shot advantage and a 43-36 edge in ground balls.

With the win the Leopards improve to 7-2 and resume Commonwealth Coast Conference play Saturday against Gordon. Mass. Maritime falls to 2-5 and hosts Clark in a Pilgrim League contest Saturday night.
