Men's Soccer Shutout at Brandeis

WALTHAN, Mass. – Senior midfielder Theo Terris (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) and junior midfielder Sam Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./No. Attleboro) combined for a goal and three assists as the Brandeis men's soccer team shutout Wentworth, 4-0, in a con-conference contest at Gordon Field. With the win Brandeis improves to 5-2 while the Leopards fall to 3-3-2.

The Judges peppered Wentworth junior goalie John Longo (Needham, Mass./Needham) with 13 first-half shots but did not manage to break the tie until the Leopards goalie picked up a back pass from one of his own defenders setting up an indirect kick for Brandeis just inside the box. Ocel rolled the ball to his right and Terris scored in the 27th minute.

Brandeis never looked back from that first-half goal. In the 56th minute, Terris played a ball to the right foot of junior forward Lee Russo (Westford, Mass./Westford Acad.) who finished with a shot to the lower right corner of the net. Brandeis would go on to pad their lead in the 59th minute when Ocel fed a low cross in to sophomore midfielder Kyle Feather (Pinebrook, N.J./Montville Township) who finished with a one timer.

In the 83rd minute, freshman defender Tyler Savonen (Orleans, Mass./Nauset Regional) fed senior forward Alexander Farr (Nahant, Mass./St. John's Prep) behind two Wentworth defenders. Farr finished with shot to the left hand corner of the goal.

Longo finished the game with five saves and three goals allowed in 59 minutes while sophomore Cody Gibb (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset), finished the contest with one save and one goal allowed in 31 minutes in his collegiate debut. Brandeis junior Blake Minchoff (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) posted his fifth shutout of the season with seven saves.

The Judges next take on Colby-Sawyer University away in a make-up game on September 28th at 4:00 pm before opening their UAA Conference schedule on October 1st with a 1:00 pm match at Gordon Field against the University of Rochester. The Leopards face off next with Gordon College at home on October 1st.
