SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Student-athletes from nine different institutions in the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2011 All-CCC Men's Soccer Team, as announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, seven major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected. Gordon College sophomore Andrew Vandervoort was named CCC Offensive Player of the Year, Western New England senior Shawn Fitzpatrick, Nichols senior David Johnson, and Gordon senior Micah Linn share the CCC Defensive Player of the Year recognition, freshman Kristian Kasiguran was chosen CCC Rookie of the Year, Gordon's Blake Burkey was honored as CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Western New England's Erin Sullivan was honored as CCC Coach of the Year and University of New England was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award. Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC men's soccer coaches.
The Wentworth men's soccer team had two players among the 33 student-athletes spread among three all-conference teams. Senior defender Mike Digman (Burlington, Mass.) and junior midfielder Jake Buzzell (Haverhill, Mass.) were each named Honorable Mention All-CCC.
One of the anchors of the defense throughout he career, Digman started all 14 games in which he played this season and helped the Leopards hold opponents to one or fewer goals in 10 games, including two shutouts.
A three-year starter and a captain of this year's team, Digman started 45 of the 51 games in which he played in during his career and scored three points, coming on a goal and an assist. The lone career goal was an overtime marker in a 1-0 win over Nichols in the CCC Tournament in 2009. That goal came one game after he recorded his first career point, assisting on the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Curry.
Buzzell, also a captain of this year's squad, emerged as one of the team's top midfielders and, like Digman, was an integral part of holding opponents to one or fewer goals 10 times. He started all 17 of Wentworth's games, and, in nine conference games he and his teammates allowed just 12 goals.
In three seasons he has started 39 of the 48 games in which he has appeared in. In addition to being a consistent defender throughout his career, his lone collegiate points have come on a goal in a 3-0 win over Colby-Sawyer during his freshman campaign.
Wentworth finished the 2011 season with a 6-8-3 record after losing at Nichols, 3-1, in the CCC Tournament.
