Men's Soccer Shut Out at Gordon

Men's Soccer Shut Out at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Alek Duba (Bristol, N.H.) scored twice to lead the Gordon College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action today on Gordon's Homecoming. The win improves the Scots to 3-2 in CCC play (4-7-1 overall) while the Leopards drop to 1-8-1 (1-3-1).

After a scoreless first half where the Scots held a 15-9 shot advantage, Duba put Gordon on the board just 43 seconds into the second frame after finishing a cross from Kristian Kasiguran (So./Oakwood Village, Ohio) for the 1-0 lead.

Freshman midfielder Torrey Stricklin (Warwick, R.I.) added to that lead in the 61st minute, collecting a throw in from classmate Chris Carlson (South Hamilton, Mass.) and firing a shot past Wentworth junior netminder Cody Gibb (Foster, R.I.) to put the Scots up by two.

Wentworth continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the half with eight total shots, but it was the Scots who were once again able to find the back of the net when Duba headed home a cross from senior Nick White (Glenside, Pa.) to secure the three-goal win.

Junior keeper Tim Hardy (Gorham, Maine) earned the win for Gordon with seven saves on the day, while Gibb closed out the 90-minute effort with nine saves.

The Scots take a break from conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 to travel to Keene State University, while Wentworth has a full week's rest before taking on Salve Regina University on Saturday, Oct. 13.
