Cross Country Takes Second at UNE Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine – A pair of top-10 finishes by sophomores Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) and Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) helped the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team post a second place finish at the University of New England Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Rotary Park.

Wentworth tallied a team score of 87 points, finishing second out of 15 squads. Host UNE captured the race with a team score of 38 points, while Endicott College placed third with 101 points.

Robbins, who finished sixth out of 162 runners, concluded the eight-kilometer course in 28:13.3, finishing just 10 seconds behind Plymouth State University freshman Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.), who placed fifth with a time of 28:02.3. Hopkins recorded a 10th place performance, crossing the finish line in 28:31.4.

Senior Kyle Schwartz (South Windsor, Conn.) placed 21st with a time of 29:25.6, while freshman Jonah Eisman (New York, N.Y.) finished 22nd with a time of 29:31.7.

Freshman Josh Gangemi (Norton, Mass.) was the fifth Leopard to complete the course, crossing the finish line 29th overall (22 points) with a time of 29:56.8. Junior David Ouellette (Wells, Maine) finished 37th overall (36 points), clocking a time of 30:28.9.

Freshman Chris Kaberle (Pelham, N.H.) crossed the finish line in a time of 33:32.3, which was good for 101st (77 points). Classmate Nathan Ouellette (Wells, Maine) finished in 114th place with a time of 34:54.1.

Wentworth returns to the course in two weeks when they compete at the Pop Crowell Invitational, hosted by Gordon College on Saturday, September 26 at 11:30 a.m.
