Cross Country Ties for First at Pop Crowell Invitational

WENHAM, Mass. – A trio of top-10 finishes at the Pop Crowell Invitational assisted the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team in securing a tie for first place with University of New England on Saturday morning at Gordon College. The top finish was the first of the season for the Black and Gold, but their second all-time with their last first place performance occurring one year ago at the Tri-State Invitational in Warwick, Rhode Island.
 
Wentworth and UNE each tallied team scores of 42 points and completed the eight-kilometer course first out of 11 teams. Gordon collaborated for a third place performance, tallying a team score of 80 points, while University of Maine Farmington and New Hampshire Technical Institute finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
Wentworth sophomore Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) finished second out of 104 runners, clocking a personal best time of 26:49. Gordon sophomore Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.) completed the course first, crossing the finish line in 25:50. 
 
Sophomore Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded a third place performance and registered a season-best time of 26:57. Senior Kyle Schwartz (South Windsor, Conn.), who finished ninth overall, clocked his best time of the season with a time of 27:26.
 
Freshman Jonah Eisman (New York, N.Y.) placed 12th overall, finishing the course with a season-best time of 28:02. Freshman Josh Gangemi (Norton, Mass.) placed 16th and crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 28:29.
 
Junior David Ouellette (Wells, Maine) and freshman Chris Kaberle (Pelham, N.H.) each earned top-30 finishes and season-best times, crossing the finish line 21st and 28th, respectively. Ouellette clocked a time of 28:44 and Kaberle crossed the finish line in 29:27.
 
Wentworth returns to action next week as the Leopards travel to Lincoln, Rhode Island to compete in the Tri-State Invitational on Saturday, October 3.
