Cross Country Captures Saints Invitational Crown

BOSTON, Mass. – Placing three runners among the top 10, the Wentworth Institute of Technology cross country team took home its second consecutive meet title as the Leopards finished first at the 2015 Saints Invitational held at Boston's Franklin Park.

The Leopards, who won the Tri-State Invitational on Oct. 3 and tied for first at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 26, had a team score of 72 points, edging Norwich (78) while Fitchburg State (84), Endicott (106), and Plymouth State (116) rounded out the top five. The meet consisted of 22 schools and a total of 203 runners.

Sophomore Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) finished fourth to pace Wentworth with a time of 26:46.78, shaving nearly three seconds off his top 8K time for the season. Classmates Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. McSolla crossed the line in a season-best time of 26:52.69, while Robbins finished with a time of 26:54.66, also a season best.

Senior Kyle Schwartz (South Windsor, Conn.) had a time of 27:50.56, which was good for 20th while freshman Josh Gangemi (Norton, Mass.) rounded out Wentworth's scoring runners with a time of 28:27.79 to finish 35th. Gangemi also had a season-best time.

Junior David Ouellette (Wells, Maine) was 38th (28:30.22 – season best), freshman Jonah Eisman (New York, N.Y.) placed 39th (28:30.97), sophomore Clay Harman (Broad Brook, Conn.) placed 70th (29:43.87 – season best), freshman Chris Kaberle (Pelham, N.H.) had a time of 30:08.52 to finish 78th, freshman Nathan Ouellette (Wells, Maine) was 107th with a time of 31:20.65, and sophomore Zach Howey (Pitman, N.J.) finished 109th with a time of 31:24.46.

Wentworth will next compete at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships on Saturday, October 31.
