Henniker, N.H. - New England College softball stretched their winning streak to four games sweeping the visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards Wednesday afternoon, shutting them out 9-0 in game one and beating them11-3 in game two.
With the two wins the Pilgrims improve to 12-20 overall and 11-9
in the TCCC. The losses drop the Leopards to 11-22 on the
season and 4-16 in the conference.
In game one NEC would grab a run in the home half of the first as
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) would open the game on a single and
come around and score on a Rachel White (Arlington, Mass.)
groundout. The Pilgrims would then explode for eight unearned
runs in the second inning. Leading the way would be Rachel
White who would plate a run with a double and Teraysa White who
would plate a run with a groundout.
The Leopards would threaten in both the second and the fourth
inning with runners in scoring position but they would finish the
game leaving seven runners on base.
NEC's Teraysa White finished game one with two singles and Kristen
Purdy (Candia, N.H.) would score two runs and drive in a run.
Picking up the win on the mound for NEC was Bethany Forshaw
(Waterford, Conn.) who pitched five innings allowing no runs on six
hits.
Leading the way for Wentworth at the plate was Caylee
Johanson (Windsor, Conn.) who singled twice.
In game two Wentworth would open the game with back-to-back walks
and get a single by Bridget
Souza (Medford, Mass.) and two-run double from Nicole
Ferreira (Framingham, Mass.)
To jump out to the early 3-0 lead.
NEC would respond as Alyssa Hoot (Waterville, Ohio) would hit a
three-run homerun in the bottom half of the inning knotting the
game at 3-3. The Pilgrims would then tack on runs in each of
the following four innings, including another homerun from Hoot in
the fourth, cruising to the 11-3 victory.
Leading the way for NEC in game two was Hoot who finished 3-for-3
at the plate with two homeruns, a double, three runs scored and
three runs driven in. NEC's Teraysa White was 3-for-4 at the
plate and Rachel White had two hits for the Pilgrims.
Leading the way for Wentworth was Bridget Souza who singled
twice.
Picking up the win on the mound for NEC was Gabrielle Timms (Clark
Summit, Pa.) who pitched five complete innings allowing three runs
on five hits.
