SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College softball team ran its winning streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep (8-1 and 8-0 in five innings) over visiting Wentworth Sunday afternoon (Apr. 12).



The Golden Bears have a 17-10 record and remain unbeaten in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) at 12-0. The Leopards fall to 10-17 and 3-11 in the conference.



In the opener, sophomore Sarah Lempicki (Southington, CT) gave up only four hits in five innings with four strikeouts and a walk. She is now 4-0 this spring and hasn't allowed an earned run in 16 innings.


Junior catcher Elyse Gauvin (Swansea, MA) singled, doubled twice, scored two runs, and had a RBI.



Junior first base player Trish Breault (Millville, MA) added a pair of singles, run, and three runs-batted-in.



Senior center fielder Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) contributed a single, double, and scored a run.



The Golden Bears collected 13 hits as every starter reached base safely.



Junior catcher Lizz Harvey (McConnellsburg, PA) accounted for Wentworth's only run with a lead-off homer in the sixth and also singled. Senior left fielder Nicole Ferreira (Framingham, MA) chipped-in with two hits.


In the second contest, sophomore Meagan Riemann (Thompson, CT) tossed a one-hitter for her sixth win of the season against four losses. She had five strikeouts and walked only one.


Western New England College scored five runs in the second inning with a three-run homer by Lempicki the big hit.



Junior left fielder Erin Griffin (Lowell, MA) doubled twice and single while Arsenault singled twice. Both players scored a run and had a RBI. Breault waked twice and scored three runs.



Senior right fielder Christina Farese (Marlborough, MA) doubled after smacking a triple in the opener.



Wentworth's only hit was a single by junior catcher Bridget Souza (Medford, MA) in the fourth.
