Wentworth Cruises to Second Straight Win

Wentworth Cruises to Second Straight Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman forward Stephanie Crockett's (Bedford, Mass.) three first half goals – scored in a span of 15:24 – paced the Wentworth women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Regis in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

The only goal the Leopards would need came at the 10:05 mark when Crockett made a long run down the left side and was fed a pass from classmate Deborah Lesky (Newton, Mass.) before finding the back of the net.  At the 15:19 mark sophomore defender Jen Reichert (Northbridge, Mass.) threaded a pass to Crockett, who buried a shot from inside of the box.  Just over 10 minutes later Crocket completed her hat trick when she took advantage of a bad clearing pass and went in alone to make it 3-0.

The 3-0 lead stood until the 86:19 mark when senior forward Madison Watson (Overland Park, Kan.) broke through a pair of Pride defenders before finding an opening inside the right post for her first marker of the season.

Sophomore Katherine Matthews (Northborough, Mass.) made a pair of first half saves while freshman Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) protected the shutout with a four-save performance over the final 45:00.  Regis freshman Bethany Frye (Adams, Mass.) made four saves for the Pride.  The Leopards held a 21-13 shot advantage, including 12-5 in the first half, and a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The win, Wentworth's second straight, lifts the Leopards' record to 7-10-0 overall and an even 6-6 in league play.  Wentworth concludes regular-season play Wednesday night when it hosts Curry at 7:00 p.m.  Regis dropped its fourth straight to fall to 2-14-1 overall and 0-12 in TCCC play.  The Pride close out the 2009 campaign at Eastern Nazarene Wednesday afternoon.
