Heaton Makes Career-High 14 Saves as Leopards Fall to Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Freshman goalkeeper Juliana Heaton (Swansea, Mass.) had a career-best 14 saves on the day, but the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Gordon College on the road Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards had a chance in the first few minutes, but a header from sophomore Adrianna Arona missed high.
  • Two saves by Heaton followed, keeping the score knotted at 0-0. Following another chance that missed high for Wentworth, the Fighting Scots upped the pressure. Heaton made three more saves in a four-minute span, but Gordon finally broke through in the 32nd minute, as McKenna Feller put in a rebound following a free kick to give the home team a 1-0 lead that they took into halftime.
  • Heaton turned aside two shots on goal, as well as a corner kick attempt early in the second half. The freshman keeper stopped two more shots on goal, but Gordon was able to extend their lead in the 79th minute, as Emily Rodriguez scored the second goal for the Fighting Scots, with Shelby Jones adding an assist. The Leopards were unable to get their offense going and couldn't draw even, as Gordon secured a 2-0 victory.

THE SERIES:

  • The two teams met for the 30th time, as Gordon now holds a 20-8-2 lead in the series.

NEXT UP:

  • The Leopards play their final match of the regular season Tuesday, Oct. 26, when they host Western New England University at 4:00 p.m.
