BOSTON, Mass. – The Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks (3-1) defensively shut down the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team (0-3), holding on for a 2-0 win and stopping all five shots they faced in their visit to the city Sunday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Scarlet Hawks made a dent on the offensive side of the field in the game's open as sophomore Allison Murray (St. Charles, Missouri) nicked a shot off the crossbar just 1:31 into the game. Two shots for the Scarlet Hawks later in the half that were saved by freshman Claire Reif (Winter Springs, Fla.) were answered with shots by the Leopards; one from senior Madelyn Seder (Marlborough, Mass.) and another from freshman Anja Rand (Montpelier, Vt.) just over ten minutes apart, with both being saved.
  • Illinois Tech broke the scoreless tie at the 30:58 mark on a turnover and shot from junior Hali Parker (Auburn, Ala.) that went in off of the crossbar, giving the visitors a 1-0 edge.
  • The Scarlet Hawks doubled their lead shortly thereafter at the 36:51 mark on a goal from Murray, who received a cross pass from senior Carolyn Beltran (Weston, Fla.).
  • Two shots from Seder in a span of 13 seconds were both saved by junior Hailey Flannagan (Batavia, Ill.) and began the second half, with the visitors still holding a 2-0 advantage.
  • Wentworth couldn't find the ice-breaking tally, giving sophomore Sarah Thomas (Redmond, Wash.) the win in a three-save performance. For the hosts, Reif made five saves in her first collegiate start.
