SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A season of firsts continues for the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team as for the first time in program history the Leopards have had a Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Year. Freshman Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) has been named the league's rookie of the year as well as being named First Team All-CCC. Joining her with all-conference accolades is classmate Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) who was named Third Team All-CCC.
Voting for the all-conference teams as well as the conference's major awards was completed by the league's 10 head coaches.
Rogoz began her career in style, being named the Most Outstanding Player of the Scranton Invitational on the opening weekend of the season as she helped the Leopards to a 4-0 record and the tournament crown. In 27 matches this season (91 sets), Rogoz is averaging 3.22 kills and 3.26 digs per set while hitting .249. She has recorded 10 double-doubles and had a career-high 19 kills on two occasions and 22 digs in a 3-2 win over Curry. Among CCC women's volleyball players she ranks second in kills per set and third in total kills (293). Her 293 kills are second-highest in a single season in program history while she ranks third in kills per set, fourth in attack percentage, and ninth in digs. She was named both the CCC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Sept. 6.
Quick, who was named the CCC's Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Oct. 3, is averaging 2.76 kills and 3.20 digs per set while hitting .293 in 27 matches (87 sets). She, too, has recorded 10 double-doubles on the season, including a career-best 15 kills on three occasions and 25 digs in a 3-1 loss to WPI early in the season. Among CCC women's volleyball players she is 10th in kills per set and ninth in kills (240). Her 240 kills are eighth-highest in a single season in program history while she ranks third in attack percentage, ninth in kills per set, and 13th in digs.
Sitting at a program-best 23-5, Wentworth is the number four seed in the CCC Women's Volleyball Tournament, which gets underway Tuesday night as the Leopards will host a quarterfinal match for the first time in history when they host fifth-seeded Salve Regina at 7:00 p.m.
