Tracey's Five-Point Night Helps Hockey End First Semester on High Note

EVERETT, Mass. – Junior Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) factored in five of his team's six goals as he scored three times and added a pair of assists to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team double up Saint Anselm, 6-3, in non-conference action Friday night.

With the win the Leopards halt their four-game winless streak (0-3-1) and improve to 4-6-4 on the year while the Hawks slip to 7-7-0 on the season.

While the first period saw neither team score, it was freshman Ryan Bonnvie (Falmouth, Maine) who was a main reason why Saint Anselm was kept off the board. Making his collegiate debut, the rookie netminder stopped all 17 shots he faced as Wentworth was outshot by a 17-7 margin. Five of those saves came on a pair of power-play attempts.

Saint Anselm broke the stalemate at 2:43 of the second period and took a 1-0 lead when freshman Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) poked the puck home through a scrum in front of the net. Juniors Mike Ferraro (Northbridge, Mass.) and Liam O'Sullivan (North Hampton, N.H.) assisted on the goal. The Leopards bounced back to tie the game at the 4:49 mark with freshman Joey O'Leary (Boston, Mass.) scored from classmate Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.) and sophomore Jake Hallisey (Quincy, Mass.).

The Hawks regained the lead at the 10:56 mark of the period, thanks to a goal from senior Kevin Curley (Avon, Mass.), which was assisted by sophomore Matt Chisolm (Scituate, Mass.). However, the lead would not last long as junior Nate Chase's (Plainfield, Ill.) goal at 16:32 of the period sparked a pair of Wentworth goals in a 29-second span which gave the hosts the lead for good. Chase scored his team-high eighth of the season from Tracey and junior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) before Gorodetsky and Chase helped on Tracey's first of the game at 17:01.

Gorodetsky made it a 4-2 game at 6:07 of the third period when he scored from Chase and Tracey, and, two and a half minutes later, Tracey put Wentworth ahead 5-2 when he scored on the power play from junior Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and sophomore Dante Flori (Waltham, Mass.). Saint Anselm brought the game to 5-3 when Iacullo scored his second of the game from sophomore Alec Andreucci (Guilford, Conn.) and O'Sullivan with 2:06 remaining. Tracey finished his hat trick when he scored an empty-net, power-play goal with 1:05 left which was set up by senior Ethan Weiss (Troy, Mich.).

The line of Gorodetsky, Tracey, and Chase finished with 11 points (five goals, six assists), as, in addition to Tracey's three-goal, two-assist night, Gorodetsky and Chase each had a goal and two assists.

Bonnvie finished with an impressive 41 saves as Wentworth was outshot by a 44-22 margin. Senior Colin Soucy (North Andover, Mass.) made 17 saves in 48:31 of work while freshman Michael Soustal (Unicov, Czech Republic) made four saves in 10:53 of work. The Leopards were 2-for-8 on the power play and successfully killed of all four of their shorthanded situations.

Wentworth is idle until traveling to Salem State on Thursday, January 3.
