Wentworth Shut Out by Gordon

Wentworth Shut Out by Gordon

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Caitlin Nedde (Colchester, Vt.) scored a pair of goals to help lift the Gordon women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

Nedde scored her first of the game (and fifth of the year) on a shot from outside the 18-yard box that found the upper right corner at the 6:34 mark.  At the 15:42 mark, she put the Fighting Scots up, 2-0, as she was able to break free from a logjam in front of the net and put home a shot to the right side.

Just a minute and a half later Gordon went ahead 3-0 when junior midfielder Kelly Donlan (Burlington, Conn.) tallied her first marker of the season, as she put home a shot from the end line, to the left of the goal.  Picking up an assist on the goal was senior midfielder Christin Peters (Feeding Hills, Mass.), whose throw-in initiated the play.

The Leopards, who were outshot 7-1 early, began to put pressure on the Fighting Scot defense, but could not get on the scoreboard.

Both teams had quality scoring chances in the second half, but neither team would find the back of the net.

Senior Abby Ytzen (Des Moines, Iowa) made seven saves to record the win for the Fighting Scots.  Freshman Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) made eight saves on eight shots in 69:38 of action.  She came on in relief of sophomore Katherine Matthews (Northborough, Mass.) who allowed three goals and made one save over the first 20:22.

The win evens Gordon's record to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in TCCC play.  The Fighting Scots are at Anna Maria on Tuesday.  Wentworth falls to 2-7 (1-3) and is at Endicott Tuesday night.
