WENHAM, Mass. – Senior Asha Steele (Bedford, N.H.) found the back of the net twice to lead the Gordon College women's soccer team past Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

The Fighting Scots, who earned a spot in the 2017 Commonwealth Coast Championship match, improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play.  The Leopards drop to 5-4-2 this season and 0-1-1 against league opponents.

Gordon outshot the Leopards throughout the match 16-9, including a 9-7 advantage on net, and broke open the scoring in the 27th minute via sophomore Kyra Skurcenski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.). The hosts extended the lead to two when Steele scored her first goal of the afternoon with just over two minutes to go in the first half.

Senior Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) kept Gordon at bay with three saves in the second half, but Steele gave the Fighting Scots their third goal in the 63rd minute, this time off a feed from junior Devin Lacroix (Candia, N.H.).

Wentworth had its chances offensively, but Gordon freshman keeper Jenny Deckert (Gloucester, Mass.), stopped all seven shots on net, and improves to 3-2 with the win. Fleming made six saves in the effort, and drops to 4-3-2 this season.

Wentworth is off until Saturday, October 6th, when it beings a five-game homestand with a 12:00 p.m. conference match against Nichols.
