Women's Tennis Picks Up First League Win

MILTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team earned its first Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the season as the Leopards defeated Curry, 8-1, at the Colonels' Big Nine Courts.

With the win Wentworth, which snaps a four-match, losing streak improved to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in league play. Curry falls to 0-6 (0-3).

Juniors Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) and Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.) earned an 8-1 win over senior Alison Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and freshman Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.) at number three doubles while junior Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) teamed to take an 8-3 win at number one doubles over junior Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and sophomore Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) The Leopards completed the sweep of the three doubles flights as junior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) defeated freshman Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) and junior Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine)), 8-3, at number two.

Briggs defeated Erickson, 6-0, 6-0, at number three singles to give the Black & Gold a 4-0 lead before McColgan's 6-3, 6-1 win over Prete at number two clinched the match for Wentworth.

Corcoran defeated Love, 6-4, 6-3, at number one, Mooney triumphed over Rhodes, 6-3, 6-1, at number six, and Jodoin earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ferris at number four.

The Colonels got their lone point of the match at number five singles as Moschetto defeated Boyd, 6-4, 6-1.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow as Wentworth hosts Endicott at Harvard University while Curry hosts Western New England.
