French Earns Academic All-District Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Aidan French (Chicago, Ill.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team has had an outstanding three-year career and today he was rewarded for both his athletic and academic excellence by being named to the 2020 Academic All-District® Baseball and Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA.

The 2020 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

An Architecture major, French becomes the 28th Academic All-District selection for Wentworth since 1995 and is the first baseball player to achieve this honor since former Leopard standout and current assistant coach Pete Oggeri achieved this honor during his senior season of 2010. As an Academic All-District selection, French will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot along with representatives from seven other districts. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.

Despite this past season being cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak, French batted .382 with three doubles, a triple, eight runs scored and three RBI in nine games. He also had an on-base percentage of .432 and a slugging percentage of .529.

A 2019 All-Commonwealth Coast Conference selection and a two-year captain for the Black & Gold, French has started all 72 games in which Wentworth has played over the last three seasons. He ranks third on the program's all-time batting average list (.349), fourth in both stolen base percentage (.879) and sacrifice hits (10), fifth in on-base percentage (.433), and sixth in career stolen bases (29).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.
