Wentworth Wins Second Straight, 86-56 Over Salve Regina

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore guard Adam Dombrowski (Groton, Mass.) scored a game-high 17 points – all in the first half – and junior forward Sam Herrick (Duxbury, Mass.) added 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Wentworth men's basketball team won its second straight game with an 86-56 win over Salve Regina in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Tansey Gymnasium.

After falling behind, 3-0, on a graduate student Jabreche Boyd (West Haven, Conn.), the host Leopards would outscore the Seahwaks, 19-7, over the next five minutes to take a 19-10 lead.  Dombrowski scored eight points during the stretch.  The Seahawks whittled the lead down to three on two occasions, including on a Boyd three pointer with 6:27 left which made the score 30-27, but Wentworth closed out the half on a 17-2 run with the final points coming on a Dombrowski three pointer as time expired.  Holding a 47-29 halftime lead, the Leopards shot an even 50 percent from the floor while holding the Seahawks to 36.7 percent.

Salve Regina would get as close as 12 (60-48) with 10:21 remaining in the contest, but a 10-2 run – with seven points coming from Herrick – upped the lead to 20 with 7:24 left and Wentworth never looked back.  The Leopards held the Seahawks to 29.4 percent shooting from the floor over the final 20:00 and 32.8 percent for the game while winning the battle on the glass, 48-37.

Dombrowski connected on 6 of 10 shots from the floor, including going 5-for-8 from behind the arc.  Herrick recorded his seventh consecutive double-double and scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half.  Senior guard Jack Barrett (Reading, Mass.) scored 11 points and had four assists, while senior forward Matt Abbott (Falmouth, Mass.) rounded out Wentworth's double digit scorers with 10 points to go along with nine rebounds and four blocks.

Boyd led the Seahawks with 15 points, while junior forward Dan Royce (Mahwah, N.J.) recorded a double-double for Salve Regina, netting 13 points and grabbing 11 boards.

With the win the Leopards improve to 8-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Salve dropped its third straight to sit at 2-16 (1-5).  Both teams are back in action on Saturday, hosting TCCC foes.  Wentworth hosts Regis while Salve Regina hosts New England College.
