SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Student-athletes from all 10 member institutions in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) were represented on the 2014-15 All-CCC Men's Basketball Team. In addition to the all-conference team, five major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were selected.
Nichols College junior Irving Eggleston and Endicott College sophomore Kamahl Walker share CCC Player of the Year recognition. Gordon College senior Hans Miersma was honored for the third-straight year as the CCC Defensive Player of the Year. Salve Regina University freshman Bryce Boggs was named CCC Rookie of the Year, while Wentworth Institute of Technology senior John-Michael Fragnoli was awarded Senior Scholar Athlete. Nichols' Tom Glynn was tabbed CCC Coach of the Year and Wentworth Institute of Technology received the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC men's basketball coaches.
Joining Eggleston, Walker, Miersma and Fragnoli on the first team were Matt Langadas (Nichols), and Jaylen Owens (Eastern Nazarene).
Second team honorees included Mike Gelineau (Western New England), John Henault (Endicott), Gustave Koumare (Nichols), Max Montroni (Endicott), and Ryan Palumbo (Roger Williams).
Third team honorees include Jason Dempsey (Gordon), Barrett Hanlon (Salve Regina), Antonio Jones (Curry), Devin Thompson (University of New England), and Justin Wagner (Eastern Nazarene).
A four-year letterwinner and two-year captain from Schenectady, N.Y., Fragnoli is a Dean's List student as a mechanical engineering technology major at Wentworth. He has had an impressive senior campaign as he is averaging 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest while shooting .541 from the floor. The only player in the conference to rank among the top 10 on both scoring (10th) and rebounding (9th), he had a career high of 24 in a 65-60 win over Lesley on January 3, had scored 20 or more points on five occasions and has four double-doubles.
Fragnoli is a two-year captain of the Leopards and over the course of his career he has started 77 of the 108 contests in which he has played in, averaging 8.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting .527 from the floor. He is tied for third all-time in career games played and ranks in the top 10 in program history in blocked shots (fourth), field goal percentage (fifth), rebounds (10th), and games started (10th).
Off the court, he was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the student-athlete honor society, last year and has completed three different cooperative learning experiences at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Atlas Copco. His cumulative grade point average is the highest among his teammates and he has been a leader in several community service initiatives including Special Olympics Basketball, the Coaches vs. Cancer 5K Race, the Mission Hill Road Race and the Wentworth Does Not Forget Drive for American military personnel overseas.
The number four seed in the CCC Tournament, Wentworth (12-13) hosts Gordon (11-14) in a quarterfinal round contest this evening at 7:00.
