Shade Nets 100th Career Point in 5-1 Win

Shade Nets 100th Career Point in 5-1 Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Five different players scored goals, including senior forward Casey Shade (Anchorage, Alaska), whose assist on what held up as the game-winning goal made him the 10th Wentworth hockey player to reach the 100-point plateau, as the Leopards defeated Suffolk, 5-1, in an ECAC Northeast contest at Matthews Arena.

The Rams got the first period's only goal as sophomore forward Charlie McGinnis (Winchester, Mass.) fed junior forward Andrew Flynn (Stamford, Conn.) on a 2-on-1 and beat Leopard junior netminder Mike Jarboe (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) high to the right side. Despite not scoring in the opening stanza, the Leopards held a 9-5 shot advantage.

Wentworth countered with four unanswered markers in the second period, beginning with sophomore forward Cameron Gibson's (Valencia, Calif.) goal, assisted by freshman forward Sean McLaughlin (North Billerica, Mass.) and freshman defenseman Beau Burgau (New Ulm, Minn.), at 1:41. Burgau recorded his first career tally at 4:18 on a shot from the left circle, which was assisted by senior forward Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) and gave Shade his 100th career point.

Skylur Jameson and junior defenseman Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) set up Shade on the power play at 12:50 to give the Leopards a 3-1 lead before a power play goal from Skylur Jameson, assisted by Shaun Jameson and freshman forward Mike Domsodi (Kirkland, Que.), with 1:19 left in the period made it a 4-1 game. The second period featured the two teams combining for 45 penalty minutes.

The Leopards closed out the scoring at the 5:28 mark of the third when Shaun Jameson and junior defenseman Reed Rushing (Seattle, Wash.) set up Domsodi for the Black & Gold's third power play marker of the contest.

Jarboe finished with 16 saves in 53:35 of work before giving way to freshman Jeff Giordani (Quincy, Mass.), who made three stops in his collegiate debut. Suffolk sophomore netminder Cam Kelley (Brighton, Mass.) made 29 saves. The Leopards held a 34-20 shot advantage for the contest.

With the win Wentworth improves to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in ECAC Northeast play. The Leopards are at Nichols on Sunday night. Suffolk falls to 2-6-0 (0-3-0) and hosts Curry on Saturday afternoon.
