Men's Lacrosse Cruises Past Anna Maria

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Dolan McCarthy (Hyde Park, Mass.) scored six goals and added an assist and junior Jacob Eldred (Goffstown, N.H.) had three goals and five assists to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team cruise past Anna Maria, 20-5, in the Leopards' 2018 home opener.

Winners of two straight, the Leopards improve to 5-1 while the AMCATS fall to 2-3.

After Anna Maria opened the game with a goal from freshman Jake Klemba (South Windsor, Conn.), Wentworth tallied the next six goals, with three coming from McCarthy and Eldred scoring one and assisting on three others. Sophomore Brady Seymour (Chicopee, Mass.) scored twice for the AMCATS, sandwiched around a junior Matt Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) goal, to make it 7-3 with 7:46 remaining in the second quarter.

Freshman Ben Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) scored a man-down goal just under four minutes later to start a 9-0 run and give the hosts a 16-3 lead with 5:50 remaining in the third quarter. Single goals from Anna Maria freshman Cameron Perry (Coventry, R.I.) and senior Andrew Marcotte (Plainville, Mass.) made it 16-5 after three quarters.

Sophomore Riley Smith (Plaistow, N.H.) scored three times in the fourth quarter for the Leopards, who also received a goal from classmate Kyle Doner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).

Smith finished with three goals while Doner had two goals and an assist and junior Jack Zaylor (Hanover, Mass.) scored twice. Coakley finished the game with a goal and four assists. Freshman Danny Bartosiewicz (North Grafton, Mass.) had \ six ground balls and four caused turnovers. McCarthy chipped in with three caused turnovers while senior Brad Krueger (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a game-high seven ground balls. Freshman Paul Sender (Closter, N.J.) was 16-for-27 at the X.

Seymour had two goals for Anna Maria while Perry had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Brandon Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) had a team-high five ground balls.

Senior Scott Boucher (Salisbury, Mass.) made three saves in the first half while classmate Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) had six in the second half. Junior Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) made 26 saves for Anna Maria. Wentworth had a 62-22 shot advantage and a 48-33 edge in ground balls. The Leopards were 14-of-17 in clearing attempts on the night and went 5-for-9 in man-up situations.

Wentworth is at Lasell on Wednesday.
