WENHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Caitlin Nedde (Colchester, VT) scored four of her team's five goals as the Gordon College women's soccer team defeated Wentworth, 5-0, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest. Gordon moves to 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action, while Wentworth drops to 2-7-1, and is 1-4-1 in league play.
Nedde found the back of the net twice within the first seven
minutes to give the Fighting Scots and early, 2-0 lead. Her
first goal was setup on a cross into the box from Karina Scavo
(Mount Sinai, NY). The second goal was created by a long pass
from Julia Miller (New York, NY) which Nedde received and took
behind the Leopards' defense on a breakaway.
Up 2-0, Scavo struck in the 15th minute, scoring on a shot from
close range off the left wing. The fourth goal of the half
was scored by Nedde, as she was set up by Kaelyn McBride (Franklin,
MA) for another breakaway goal.
Gordon outshot Wentworth 12-6 in the first half and took a 4-0 lead
into the break.
Nedde finished her afternoon with a goal in the 55th minute
when she ripped a shot off the left wing over the outstretched arms
of Leopards' goalkeeper Jess Gardner
(Wilbraham, MA).
Kari Christenson (Standish, ME) played most of the afternoon in
goal and she combined with Abbey McManus (Bel Air, MD) on the
shutout. The duo posted 6 saves. Gardner and Michelle Lough
(East Wintrhop, ME) both saw time in net for the Leopards and
combined for 7 saves.
Gordon will travel to Milton to face Curry at 11:00 a.m. in a
conference matchup on Saturday. Wentworth will be at Regis at
1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
